Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's soccer team fell to Duquesne 1-0 in overtime when the Dukes scored in the 99th minute of play on Thursday at George Mason Stadium.
Duquesne (9-3-2, 5-0-0 A-10) sophomore Abby Losco netted her fourth goal of the season with under a minute to play in overtime, scoring on a low shot from 18 yards out to give the first-place Dukes their sixth straight win.
“What we'll continue to focus on is our performance and I thought it was good tonight,” Mason head coach Todd Bramble said. “We created some good chances and it was a well-played game by both teams.”
Mason (9-5-0, 3-2-0 A-10) was limited one shot on goal in the game and lost for the first time at home in over five weeks. Senior Alex Myers recorded the Patriots only shot on goal in the 14th minute.
The Dukes recorded the first scoring chance of the game in the first minute of play when junior Linnea Faccenda hit the post on a shot from 15 yards out. The teams remained scoreless after 45 minutes.
The Patriots were inches away from taking the lead in the 50th minute. Junior Kaila Williams sent a corner kick toward the net only to have the shot glance off the post.
The Dukes outshot the Patriots 9-4 in the first half and 16-11 for the game, including a 7-1 shots on goal advantage. Duquesne controlled the play in overtime, registering six shots while the Patriots didn't have an attempt.
Duquesne improved to 6-0-1 on the road this season, with four of the six wins by shutout. The Patriots are 6-3-0 at home and have lost consecutive games for just the second time this season.
Myers attempted five of the Patriots 11 shots in the game. Four different players for the Dukes attempted three shots each. Mason senior goalkeeper Kirsten Glad made six saves including a spectacular stop late in regulation to keep the game scoreless.
“I expect that our players will do a good job of being able to move on to the next game,” Bramble said. “We had a really good week of preparation and training leading into this game. It's a shame we didn't get a result.”
The Patriots are back in action on Sunday against Davidson with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
