Senior Shevon Thompson is a 6-11 center on the Mason men's basketball team. The Clarendon, Jamaica native excelled in cricket and soccer before playing basketball in high school. GoMason.com sat down with Thompson for a Q&A.

Q: What do you tell people about where you grew up in Jamaica?

I'm from Clarendon which has a little bit of everything—city and the river. If people want to visit Jamaica, I tell them to go everywhere. But a highlight would be Montego Bay because of the beach, the food and the atmosphere.

Q: What sports did you play growing up in Jamaica?

I was playing everything growing up, but soccer and cricket were my favorites because I was good at them. In cricket I was a batsman and in soccer I played central midfield.

Q: When did you know you could play basketball in college?

I had a good year playing basketball my last year in high school and that's when a lot of people were telling me I had a chance to play in college. My coaches and people around the country thought it was a good possibility.

Q: Who is your favorite sports team?

I like LeBron James because he is different and he is a beast. Right now, I like the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Q: What is your favorite off-court activity?

I do everything—play video games, hang out with the guys, read. On campus, my favorite thing to do is play basketball.

Q: Did you choose #14 or was it assigned to you?

15 was my original number and it wasn't available when I got here, but wanted to stay as close to 15 as possible and 14 was available.

Q: What other schools recruited you and why did you ultimately choose Mason?

I was recruited by a bunch of schools like DePaul, FIU, Old Dominion. I picked Mason because of the campus—there is plenty of stuff to do and the diversity of the campus was important to me. The university is also so close to DC, so you have a little bit of everything.

Q: If you could attend any sporting event at all what would it be?

The NBA Finals because I've never been there and I want to experience going with the atmosphere and to see the best play. Or a game between Barcelona and REAL Madrid.

Q: What is more satisfying for you… a big block or a dunk?

Dunk—it brings my energy level up.

Q: Do you have a favorite place to eat in Virginia?

My favorite place is Caribbean Corner because it reminds me of home. The ox tail and jerk chicken, rice, plantains and peas are my favorite.

Q: What is your favorite thing about social media?

It's easy to connect with people and especially my family. Facebook is my favorite because it's the easiest way to connect with my family.

Q: What's something you couldn't live without?

My family because of the love we have for each other.

Q: Top three things on your bucket list?

To earn my degree, be successful and help people.

Q: What super hero or power would you want if you could have one?

I would want to be invisible because no one can see you and you would be unstoppable.

Q: Who did you idolize as a kid?

I didn't really idolize anyone, I wanted to build my own character.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals?

I listen to J. Cole and Jay-Z
