Fairfax, Va.- The pool play brackets of the Virginia Duals, held at the historic Hampton Coliseum January 8 and January 9, were released today. Mason has been drawn in the James River Pool and will dual Kent State at 9:00 a.m. and Iowa State, the 18th ranked team according to USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll, at 11:00 a.m, with both duals taking place Friday on mat three.
The teams will then be seeded in order of how they finish, with the first place team entering the gold bracket, the second place team entering the silver bracket and the third place team entering the bronze bracket. The Silver and Bronze brackets will begin at 3:00 p.m. Friday and conclude Saturday with matches beginning at 10:00 a.m. while the Gold bracket participants will compete Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
The championship and third place matches in the Gold bracket will then be held at 8:30 p.m.
The Patriots have several wrestlers who have competed in the Virginia Duals as high schoolers including, redshirt senior captain Greg Flournoy, redshirt senior Blake Ruolo, redshirt senior Konbeh Koroma,redshirt junior Ryan Forrest, redshirt sophomore Ibrahim Bunduka and sophomore Daniel Mika.
The dual against Kent State will feature two rematches from the Navy Classic. Flournoy will face the #2 ranked wrestler according to flowrestling.com, Ian Miller. Miller defeated the Patriot by decision in the semi-finals of the Navy Classic, 6-3.
Rodriguez will face the #11 ranked wrestler according to flowrestling.com Mack McGuire. Mcguire defeated Rodriguez by decision, 6-3 in the finals of the Navy Classic.
