FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason and Appalachian State played a scoreless 82 minutes of action Sunday afternoon before Sarah Hardison headed in the lone goal for the 1-0 Mason victory. Mason ended the Patriot Invitational with a 1-1 record.

MATCH NOTES
-After an even first half in which the teams totaled seven shots, four from Mason, the Mountaineers and Patriots stood scoreless at intermission.
-Mason saw some solid opportunities in the second half. The Patriots posed a threat in the 80th minute when Emma Starr setup Sarah Hardison with a header at the far post, but Hardison's header hit the crossbar and went high.
- App State threatened two minutes later when Jane Cline blasted a shot from 20-yards out, but Kirsten Glad was in position to make the stop.
-Mason broke through in the 83rd minute with Hardison's fifth goal of the season. Nicolette Herdegen set the play as Hardison headed it past the keeper for the 1-0 Mason lead and win.
-Starr looked to give Mason a 2-0 lead late in the contest, but the shot was wide right in the 85th minute.
-ASU sought the late equalizer at the 89:09 mark from Sarah Murphy, but Glad collected her fifth and final save of the afternoon.

STAT BREAKDOWN
-It was a tight battle through the first half as Mason and ASU tallied seven total shots (Mason with four) in the period.
-Overall, Mason outshot ASU 13-9, but the Mountaineers led in shots on goal, 5-3.
-Kirsten Glad played the full 90 minutes in goal, collecting five saves and the win.
-Mason held the advantage in corner kicks, 4-1.
