Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, DC. – Five Patriots registered double-digit points as George Mason women's volleyball defeated the University of Pennsylvania 3-2 at the D.C. Classic at Howard University. The Patriots struggled in their opening match against Western Carolina, falling 3-1 behind an attack percentage of .128. Mason raised that to .224 in the win over Penn.
COACH'S CORNER- “We're still learning, but I'm really excited with how our team fought,” head coach Jackie Simpson said. “To come back after a tough loss and get refocused that quickly against a really good Penn team, who is going to do a lot of great things throughout the season, was huge. That was a big win for us. I was most pleased with the fact that our entire team was involved with that win, from noise and communication on the bench all the way to the people on the court. The execution was there and they were working together as a unit.”

- The match saw 13 ties and seven lead changes, with the Patriots coming from behind in each of their three, set wins.
- Senior Morghan Martin led the team with 18.8 points, behind a match-high 17 kills, ace and block assist.
- Sophomore Sydney Fanoga tallied nine kills, four aces and five block assists on her way to 15.5 points on the match.
- As a unit, the Patriots tallied 50 assists, with junior Caitlyn Hipsher registering a match-high 42.
STAT BREAKDOWN
- The Patriots had a season-high 16 blocks on the match, with Penn registering just five.
- In the three sets Mason won, they had a side-out percentage of 57 or above, hitting 61 percent in both the first and third sets.
- After struggling in the earlier match, every Patriot with more than five attempts had a positive attaching percentage.

MATCH NOTES
- Martin was responsible for four straight Mason points to open the second set, with three kills and a block assists.
- Four of the Patriots seven team blocks came in the second set, which they won 25-20.
- Martin led the team with 11 kills in the loss.
- Freshman Maddie French had a career-high 10 kills in the match.
- Sophomore Kelly Schaller came through with 25 assists to help set the tone for Mason.
STAT BREAKDOWN
- In the second set win, the Patriots had an attack percentage of 30.6 percent while WCU was held to -02.7 percent.
- The Patriots had their highest sideout percentage of the match in the second set, at 64 percent, while holding WCU to its lowest of the match at 50 percent.
- Both teams had 46 kills on the match, however, WCU committed 22 attacking errors to Mason's 28.
