FAIRFAX, Va. – Despite a solid first-half effort, the George Mason men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision Saturday night to Albany at George Mason Stadium. The Great Danes used a tally from Carlos Clark and a penalty kick from Leo Melgar to take the victory.
MATCH NOTES
-Mason attacked early in the first half as an attempt from Taylor Washington was blocked 10 seconds before Henning Dirks forced goalkeeper Eric Orologio into his first save of the night.
-Late in the first half, the Patriots saw a solid opportunity from Matt Tucker in the 38th minute. But Tucker's shot hit the left post and went wide.
-Mason goalkeeper Steffen Kraus picked up two saves in the first half including a stop on a header attempt from Carlos Clark in the 42nd minute to go into halftime scoreless.
-Albany opened scoring in the 75th minute with a tally from Carlos Clark off a free kick from Moosah Khanat for a 1-0 lead.
-The Great Danes took a 2-0 lead just over a minute later when Leo Melgar successfully scored on a penalty kick.
STAT BREAKDOWN
-Mason led Albany in shots, 13-10, but the Great Danes held a 6-3 shots on goal advantage.
-Kraus collected four saves in the contest to Eric Orologio's three saves from Mason.
