FAIRFAX, Va. – UNCW scored in the 23rd minute for the lone goal of the contest as UNCW took the opening game of the Patriot Invitational against George Mason on Friday night. Emma Starr and Alex Myers each tallied three shots apiece for the Patriots.
MATCH NOTES
-UNCW opened the scoring with a goal from Katrina Guillou to put the Seahawks up 1-0 at the 22:41 mark. Guillou completed a throw in from Madison Melnick for the score.
-Emma Starr looked for the equalizer in the 29th minute, but Carolyn Huddy kept the slate clean with the save.
-Mason produced another solid set play off a Kaila Williams corner kick in the 40th minute. Off the corner, Emily Littell looked to head it past the keeper, but the shot hit the post and bounced back into play.
-Mason saw a solid opportunity late in the second half to even the score as Emma Starr, in the far corner, looked for Erin Mitchell at goal, but goalkeeper Carolyn Huddy was in position to intercept the play.
