At Mason, academic advising is delivered to all undergraduate students, including student-athletes, with declared majors through the academic departments either by teaching faculty or professional advisors.  Student-athletes who have not declared a major are advised by the professional advising staff in Mason's Academic Advising Center. Student-athletes are required by Athletics to meet with their faculty or professional Academic Advisors prior to being registered for classes each term. Student-athletes must obtain written approval from their Academic Advisors who ensure that the courses selected for registration meet academic program requirements and their successful completion will further the student-athlete's progress toward degree completion.

Tutoring

Student-athletes are eligible to receive tutoring through the Academic Services Program. Tutoring provided through Athletics is free of charge for student-athletes and is available for the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms while classes are in session. Student-athletes can file requests for tutoring through their Academic Coordinators. Assignment to tutoring for student-athletes is dependent on available resources, academic need, and scheduling restraints.

Tutoring sessions are conducted in the West PE Module from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Student-athletes are expected to arrive prepared and on time. Tutoring is available for most subjects at the 100 and 200-level. Generally, tutors are Mason graduate students or staff experts in the subject matter.
