Fairfax, Va. – American University (2-0-0) was able to score three goals on 12 shots in the first half on its way to a 3-1 victory over the George Mason men's soccer team (1-1-0) on at George Mason Stadium on Sunday evening. As a result the Eagles claim the Kuykenstrong D.C. College Cup and break a five-match losing streak against the Patriots.

MATCH NOTES
-The Patriots grabbed the first scoring chance of the match when Henning Dirks rung a shot off of the crossbar from 18 yards out in the fifth minute. He ended the game with four total shots.
-American was first on the scoreboard in the 20th minute when Dale Ludwig headed a ball into the top left corner of the net on a perfect corner ball from Liam Robley for the 1-0 advantage. Ludwig led American with four shots in the contest.
-Five minutes after the first goal Michael Cherry tapped in a rebound inside the box on a shot off the right post from Joe Iraola for the 2-0 lead.
-With just over five minutes remaining in the first half the Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 on a penalty kick from Robley. All American players scored their first goals of the season.
-American held the first half shot advantage 12-7 and edged the Patriots 17-14 overall. Mason recorded seven in each half and placed four on goal by the feet of Dirks, Daniel Hoffman, Stephen Durbin and Shadi Atassi.
- Durbin's shot on goal managed to enter the back of the net after Matt Tucker crossed a ball from the right sideline to the left corner of the net that was finished by Durbin's head.
STAT BREAKDOWN
-Dylan Hobert made three saves for American while one was made by Steffen Kraus for the Patriots. Michael Butts played the second half in goal for Mason.
-A total of 10 American players took at least one shot as the Eagles grabbed the shot advantage 17-14
-Both teams had seven corner kicks and 11 fouls.
-American breaks a streak of five-consecutive D.C. College Cup won by the Patriots.
