BALTIMORE, Md. – George Mason scored the game-tying goal with two seconds left in regulation and completed the victory in double-overtime behind a goal from Abby Downey. Mason scored two goals off corner kicks for the victory, holding a commanding 14-4 advantage in corners for the game.
MATCH NOTES
-Sarah Hardison gave Mason an early 1-0 lead with a header off a Kaila Williams corner kick. Williams took the corner, played it out to Niomi Serrano who found Hardison with the header into the right corner post in the 25th minute.
-Mason saw a pair of opportunities late in the first half from Alex Myers and Hardison, but both attempts were just inches away from the posts.
-UMBC tied the game at 1-1 in the 51st minute when Amira Walcott lofted the ball over Kirsten Glad inside the far post for the tally.
-The Retrievers took the 2-1 lead 13 minutes later on a score from Gabby Boehmer. Boehmer finished a touch pass to the inside right corner to put the home squad on top.
-Mason saw several attempts late in the game, but the game-tying tally didn't come until the near end of regulation. With less than 30 seconds left, Erin Mitchell from the near corner sent a drop pass to the near corner of the net as the goalkeeper attempted to stop the play, but the pass fell in the net with two seconds left.
-After a scoreless first overtime period, Mason found the game-winner from Abby Downey just over five minutes into the extra period. Kaila Williams took the corner for the Patriots as Downey headed it past the fingertips of Jen Nance for the win.
STAT BREAKDOWN
-Mason outshot UMBC 23-13 in the contest including a 13-8 second half advantage. The Patriots placed 10 shots on target to the Retrievers' nine.
-Sarah Hardison and Emily Littell each attempted four shots in the contest.
-Kirsten Glad collected seven saves in the contest as did UMBC goalkeeper, Jen Nance.
-The Patriots held a strong lead in corner kicks, topping UMBC 14-4.

-Mason opens their home slate hosting the Patriot Invitational next weekend. The two-day tournament begins on Friday, September 4 against UNCW at 5 p.m.
