NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After helping lead the George Mason women's soccer team to victory on Sunday with a hat trick, junior Sarah Hardison has been tabbed the Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday.
Hardison scored all three Mason goals at American on Sunday for her first collegiate hat trick as the Patriots blanked the Eagles, 3-0, for their first victory of 2015. The junior took three shots in the contest, converting on all three attempts for the win.
"We are happy that Sarah received this well-deserved recognition," commented head coach Todd Bramble. "What I liked most about her day was the variety in which she scored her goals; a header, close range with her feet and a blast from distance. I also liked that the assists came from three different players and three different areas of the field which is an indication that we attack with different players and in different ways. Sarah will have plenty of support as the season unfolds."
This marks the first A-10 weekly award announcement of the 2015 season and first weekly honor for the Hamilton, Va. native. Following her freshman campaign, Hardison was named to the A-10 All-Rookie team.
The hat trick marked the first for a Patriot since Omolyn Davis scored three goals at William & Mary on October 23, 2009. Hardison's three goals in a game marked a career high for the Patriot.
Mason returns to action on Friday traveling to UMBC for a 5 p.m. kickoff in Baltimore.
