FAIRFAX, Va. – Thanks to late first half goal from junior Daniel Hoffman, the George Mason men's soccer team shutout Wright State in the team's second exhibition match this preseason.
MATCH NOTES
-Mason recorded the first three shots off the game, all coming in the first five minutes of play from Zach Herstek and freshman Stephen Durbin.
-Wright State's first scoring chance came in the 32nd minute on a shot from Brett Elder that sailed wide.
-After the Mason defense blocked an attempt from Tristan Lyle, the Patriots brought the ball down field and scored almost three minutes later in the 38th minute on Hoffman's strike inside the box.
-Both teams took turns in each other's side of the field, trading shots for a 6-3 Wright State advantage in the second half.
-The Raiders' best scoring chance came in the 75th minute when Elder landed a strike off of goalkeeper Steffen Kraus' gloves and ricocheted off of the crossbar.
-The Patriots kept Wright State shotless for the final eight minutes to seal the 1-0 victory.
