NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – As announced by the Atlantic 10 Conference this afternoon, the George Mason women's soccer team was tabbed to finish 10th in the preseason poll as voted upon by the league's head coaches.
For the seventh consecutive year, Dayton was selected as the favorite to finish first and defend its A-10 title. La Salle, the 2014 A-10 runner up, was picked to finish second, while VCU, George Washington and Richmond rounded out the top five.
Also released Monday afternoon was the preseason all-conference team also voted on by the league's head coaches. Dayton led the way with five members making the preseason team, while Richmond was represented with two players.
The top eight teams will compete in the 2015 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship, which will be held Nov. 5-8 at Davidson's Alumni Soccer Stadium in Davidson, N.C.
Mason topped Radford 4-1 in its first exhibition contest on Monday evening and welcomes James Madison to George Mason Stadium on Saturday at 7 p.m. The season officially gets underway at East Carolina on Friday, August 21 at 7 p.m.
