FAIRFAX, Va. – First-year head coach Todd Bramble released the 2015 George Mason women's soccer schedule today. The Patriots will play eight regular season contests at George Mason Stadium and host their first non-conference tournament since the 2009 season.
“This year's schedule presents some exciting challenges for our team from start to finish,” noted Bramble. “From getting to play two in-state rivals in preseason, to measuring ourselves against some 2014 NCAA tournament teams in non-conference play and culminating with quality opposition during the A-10 Conference schedule. It will undoubtedly be an exciting journey for our players and staff and we are eager to accept every challenge along the way.”
Mason will conclude preseason play with a pair of exhibition contests in Fairfax hosting Radford on August 10 and former CAA rival James Madison on Aug. 15. Following preseason action, the Patriots will open the regular season with three contests on the road beginning at East Carolina on Aug. 21. A local trip to American on Aug. 23 precedes a tilt at UMBC on Aug. 28 to cap the road swing.
The Patriots will open the home season welcoming UNCW, UMBC and Appalachian State for the Patriot Invitational September 4-6. Mason will face UNCW to open the tournament on Friday and close the two-day tournament on Sunday against Appalachian State.
Illinois State, a 2014 NCAA tournament participant, will make a trip to Fairfax on Friday, Sept. 11 before Mason opens a four-game road trip visiting Atlantic Coast Conference member Wake Forest on Sunday, Sept. 13. Mason will face Old Dominion under the lights on Sept. 18 to close out the month and opens Atlantic 10 Conference play October 1 at St. Bonaventure. A trip to A-10 defending champion Dayton on Oct. 4 concludes the road stretch.
Mason returns home to host UMass on Oct. 8 and Saint Louis on Oct. 11. The Patriots will make road stops at Duquesne (Oct. 15) and Davidson (Oct. 18) before welcoming in-state rival VCU on Oct. 22.
The Patriots will welcome back former players and members of the 1985 National Championship team for Alumni Weekend Oct. 25 when George Washington visits Fairfax.
