Men's Soccer Introduces Ten to 2015 Squad

FAIRFAX, Va. - A class of 10 freshman are prepared to join head coach Greg Andrulis and his staff for the 2015 men's soccer campaign. The Patriots come off an 11-4-5 season with a trip to the second round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

"We are very excited to welcome these incredible young men to the Mason soccer family," commented Andrulis. "Our assistant coaches Trevor Singer and John O'Hara did a wonderful job assembling a very important recruiting class that will have a positive effect on our program this season and throughout their careers. We expect that these young men will represent the very best of Mason in the classroom, in the community and in the competitive arena."

Shadi Atassi - American Heritage High School | F/MF | Miami, Fla.

Atassi comes to Mason after one year of play at American Heritage and several years with the Olympic Development Program where he was named to the state and district team in 2011. The Miami native has spent time playing with SAA Real Madrid, West Pines United and Western FC Academy and was also selected to travel to Italy for an AC Milan clinic in 2009.

Stephen Durbin - Lake Braddock Secondary School | Forward | Burke, Va.

Durbin was First Team Patriot District three times at Lake Braddock Secondary where he also earned All-Region, All-Met and All-State honors. He has also played soccer with Braddock Road Youth Club, Annandale Boys, Girls Club McLean Youth Soccer and Prince William Soccer.

Jordan Edwards - Forest Park High School | Defense | Woodbridge, Va.

The Woodbridge, Va. native was a First Team All-Conference and All-Region honoree at Forest Park and additionally earned Second Team All-Met and All-State honors in 2014 and 2015. Edwards played four years of soccer with Arlington Soccer Association and was a state champion in 2012 and 2013 as well as a 2013 Disney champion.

Ramon Evans - Sport and Medical Sciences Academy| F/MF | Hartford, Conn.

Evans joins the Patriots as a 2009 Connecticut State Cup champion and a U.S. Soccer Market Training Center invitee. The Hartford, Conn. native made the playoffs with the 2013 Northeast Pre-Academy League and the 2015 USSDA U-17/18 squad.

Clark Gronek - St. Ignatius High School | GK | Shaker Heights, Ohio

In three years of varsity soccer at St. Ignatius Gronek was a high school state champion in 2015 and a 2013 Midwest Regional finalist. He was also an Ohio North State Cup champion and a U.S. Club Soccer national finalist in 2012.

Tomas Lapnas - Delaware Valley Regional High School| GK | Pittstown, N.J.

Lapnas has spent the past five seasons playing with the New York Red Bulls Academy. Originally from Pittstown, N.J. he has accumulated a 34-6-6 record with a 0.89 GAA over the past two seasons with the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Lapnas has been selected to the U.S. Soccer combine, U.S. Soccer Marketing training centers and New Jersey region ODP teams while also gaining experience internationally in England and Austria against top European and South American clubs.

Michael Monahan - Yorktown High School | F/MF | Falls Church, Va.

Kyle Ryan - Westford Academy | MF | Westford, Mass.

Ryan played one year of high school soccer at Westford Academy before playing for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with FC Bolts Celtic. His U-16 team advanced to the USSDA playoffs and was ranked 22nd nationally. 

Will Zarco

Will Zarco - Robinson Secondary School | MF | Fairfax, Va.

A native of Fairfax, Zarco played two years of varsity soccer at Robinson Secondary where he earned 2015 First Team All-Conference honors along with Second Team All-Region and honorable mention All-Met awards. Zarco has participated in several international competitions including stops in Sweden and Austria while being invited to tryout and train with teams in Spain and Brazil. He was a member of the USSDA from 2010-2015.

After three exhibition contests the Patriots open the 2015 season with the Kuykenstrong D.C. College Cup, hosting Howard on Friday, August 28 and American on Sunday, August 30 at George Mason Stadium.
