FAIRFAX, Va.—GoMason.Com went off the court with junior Caitlyn Hipsher, a junior setter from Redwood City, Calif.
You're originally from Redwood City, Calif. What would you say is your favorite part of your home state?
Being able to drive a short distance in any direction and finding all different geographies and climates, whether it is the Redwood Forest, the farms and wineries of the Napa Valley, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, or our well-known beaches.
California has a rich history in women's volleyball, both beach and indoor. Who is the player you grew up looking up to most? Why?
While I love watching any and all competitive volleyball, I really looked up to and admired Kerri Walsh. She grew up in my area and we both attended Archbishop Mitty High School. She encompassed every good quality of a volleyball player and through her hard work and the support of her family, friends, and coaches, had found great success.
All that being said, what about Mason attracted you to make the jump to the East Coast?
Mason is a very prestigious school in a very prime location. It is in such great proximity to Washington D.C but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of a major city. I had also felt a connection with the girls on the team when I had gone on my official visit.
In your senior year of high school you were part of a CIF Division II State Championship team that completed the season undefeated, what was the biggest takeaway for you that season?
My biggest take away was that every point in every match mattered. Every person on that team, on or off the bench, was working 100% at every moment during each game. It takes every member of a team to face and conquer the challenges you meet in a game, and the teams with the biggest heart and the strongest will to succeed can work together to achieve anything.
When you're not working out or studying you are most likely…?
When I am not working out or studying I am most likely hanging out with friends or relaxing and enjoying my free time with sleep, a good book, or Netflix.
