FAIRFAX, Va--- GoMason.com went off the court with rising senior Meredith Bush, a middle blocker from Pickerington, Ohio.
You're back home this summer interning with the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets in the Community Relations department. What have you been doing?
As the intern in the Community Relations department I have been working very closely with the foundation as well as taking part in the many educational programs that the Blue Jackets offer for Columbus area schools. In addition to this, I have also had the opportunity to do some marketing and other jobs within the arena and with other Columbus sports teams.
What is the biggest takeaway so far?
Having this internship has allowed me to realize that this is something I would love to do once I graduate next spring. For a long time I struggled with what I wanted to major in going back and forth between business and education and this job allows me to do a little of both!
How has your time at Mason helped prepare you for the internship with the Blue Jackets and beyond?
I think my time at Mason has helped me prepare for this internship because in the sports industry time management is everything. On any given day I could be given two or three tasks and making sure that I complete them to the best of my ability in a timely fashion is very important.
You're heading into your senior season, to what are you looking forward to most?
Going into my senior season I am looking forward to making tons of memories, having fun, and winning!
What is the best advice you've received?
The best advice I have received comes from my parents. They are constantly telling me to soak everything in, take every opportunity that comes my way and have as much fun as I possibly can. I think this is important because as a student-athlete we are put on a pretty strict schedule and sometimes it's important to take a break from the studying and enjoy something just for you.
