George Mason women's track and field team took first place at the 32nd annual ECAC Women's Championships in Princeton, NJ with 53 points while the men's team finished fourth at the 139th IC4A Men's Championship. The title for the women marks the 10th time Mason has won the Championship, but is the first since 1999. Mason holds the record for the most titles ever at ECAC Div I Championship, with a total of 10 now, leading over Penn State's six, Connecticut's five and Pittsburgh with four.
Senior Bethany Sachtleben started things strong for the Patriots, finishing second in the ECAC 5000m run with a personal record time of 16:21.19. In the field events, sophomore and Atlantic 10 triple jump champion, Nhautrey Brown took second in the same event with a distance of 12.63m. The women's 4x100m relay team made up of Aneesha Scott, Jasmine Robinson, Caela Williams and Shavon Briscoe finished second overall with a time of 45.57.
“One of the things we are proudest of is that we had so many women contribute to the scoring," head coach Andrew Gerard said. "It is a credit to the depth and persistence of our ladies that we were able to take home the team title with no individual winners. Our women did a tremendous job across the board.”
Other results of note:
- Michelle Wallerstedt came in third in the women's discus with a distance of 50.67m
- Byron Sintim finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 7.24m
- The men's 4x100m team of Ayo Raymond, Walter Mitchell, DaQuan Smalls and Bernard Freeman took fourth with a time of 40.35
- Sophomore Chantel Richardson finished fifth in the women's 100m hurdles.
- Freshman Taylor Sharpe took third place in the 400m dash with a time of 53.79.
- Xavier King, Jr. set a personal record, finishing fifth with a time of 47.22 in the men's 400m dash.
- Sophomore Ayo Raymond also set a personal record in the 100m dash with a time of 10.60 in the semis of the 100, and finished third in the finals (10.62).
- Freshman John Seals earned seventh place in the men's high jump with a mark of 2.03m.
- Senior Jasmine Robinson finished fifth in the 200m dash with a personal record mark of 23.88.
- Atlantic 10 Outdoor champion, Talisha Watts tied her personal best with a height of 1.70m in the high jump, finishing fifth.
- The women's 4x400m relay team of Sharpe, Caela Williams, Shavon Briscow and Sharon Dorsey took fourth with a time of 3:41.97 while the men's 4x400m relay team of King, Jr., Freeman, Smalls and Angel Coburn also took fourth with a time of 3:08.87.
- The Patriots had two top six finishes in the men's 200m dash with Freeman taking third with a time of 21.18 after setting a PR of 21.13 in the prelims followed by Walter Mitchell in sixth with a PR mark of 21.56.
