The George Mason women's basketball team will take part in the 38th Annual GCI Great Alaska Shootout this November in Anchorage, Alaska. The Patriots are part of a four-team field that will play two games in as many days to determine a tournament champion.

Mason will be joined by host University of Anchorage Alaska, Pepperdine and reigning Conference USA champion Western Kentucky. The Patriots have never faced UAA or Western Kentucky and have played Pepperdine just once, falling 75-73 in 1986.

The event begins Tuesday, November 24 and teams will take the court again on Wednesday, Nov. 25 for the championship and third place games. Pairings will be determined at a later date.

A women's tournament was added to the Great Alaska Shootout in 1980 with the University of Iowa taking the title with a 73-52 win over UAA. The 2014 Shootout was won by Long Beach State in a 69-60 decision over the host, Alaska Anchorage. This November will mark the Patriots first time in the tournament.
