DAVIDSON, N.C. — The Mason women's tennis team traveled to Davidson for their first A-10 match with the Wildcats. The Patriots managed only one point in the 6-1 setback at the Covington Tennis Courts.
"This was a difficult start for us since we haven't been able to practice outside," commented Coach Curtis. "It generally takes a few outdoor practices to get your depth perception and get comfortable with the conditions. We didn't have that luxury with the weather we've had. But I could see improvement from how we started to how we finished today, that's why we come south for spring break."
The Wildcats snapped a two-game skid, while sending the Patriots to their fifth defeat in their eight matches played and first setback in A-10 action. The two schools last played each other in 1988.
Scarlett Walston earned the Patriots lone point winning in a tiebreaker set at No. 6 singles. She battled back after a close 5-7 first set loss winning the second 6-3, before earning the win in the tiebreaker 1-0(10-7).
Mason's No. 2 doubles team of Esu Erdenebat and Jane Awad defeated the Wildcats Anna Feaster and Ally Sexton, 8-2, but Davidson earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 (8-1) and 3 (8-5) positions.
The Patriots continue on their Spring Break trip heading to Hilton Head, S.C. for four matches this week.
