George Mason women's basketball get another chance at Saint Joseph's Thursday when they take on the Hawks in the second round of the Atlantic 10 tournament held at the Richmond Coliseum. Tip is set for 4:30 p.m.
The Patriots fell to St. Joe's in an 82-51 decision at SJU on February 18. The Hawks connected on 49.1 percent of their shots from the field compared to the Patriots 30.9 percent in the last meeting, witnessing six in double figures led by Natasha Cloud with 16 points and nine assists. Redshirt junior Kristi Mokube narrowly missed a double-double for the Patriots with 15 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
The earlier meeting between Mason and St. Joe's started a four game losing streak for the Patriots and a four game win streak for the Hawks. Mason wrapped up the regular season with an 80-45 loss at No. 1 seed George Washington while SJU took a 67-55 win at La Salle.
Redshirt junior Taylor Brown leads the Patriots and the A-10 in scoring at 21.8 points per game, good for 13th in the nation. Senior Sandra Ngoie is the only other Patriot averaging double-digits at 10.6. Mokube's 6.0 rebounds per game lead mason followed by Ngoie with 5.4 and Brown with 5.0.
The winner of Thursday afternoon will go on to play Dayton Friday afternoon at 4:30.
