Mason Sweeps Ashford in Women's Tennis

The Mason women's tennis team, playing their fourth match in five days, defeated Ashford University 7-0 at Springfest in Hilton Head, South Carolina today.

After a delayed start due to wet courts the Patriots secured the first point by sweeping all three doubles matches.

Freshman Jane Awad put Mason up 2-0 when she quickly defeated Rachel Gantz, 6-0, 6-1. Morgan Yang tallied the next point by putting away Ursula Alvarado of the Saints, 6-2, 6-4. The win was secured when Scarlett Walston overpowered Ana Mayagoitia, 6-1, 6-0. Patriots Olivia Lacy-Thompson and Marijke Boers earned straight set victories while Esu Erdenebat won in a third set tie-breaker to round out the scoring

Mason moves to 8-6 on the year while Ashford falls to 7-2. The Patriots will take on the Huskies of Michigan Tech tomorrow at 2:30pm at the Long Cove Tennis Club on Hilton Head Island.
