Ten Patriots registered points in the loss led by redshirt junior Taylor Brown with 15 on the day, but it was not enough Sunday afternoon as George Mason women's basketball (13-16, 5-11) A-10 fell 80-45 at #22/21 George Washington to close out regular season play.
Mason missed their first 10 shot attempts in the first seven minutes of action as the Colonials took a 16-0 lead before senior Talisha Watts would get the Patriots on the board with a layup following a steal from freshman Qierra Murray. Mason would hit 9-22 over the last 13 minutes of the half, but the Colonials maintained a shooting efficiency of 55.9 (19-34) percent to take a 45-22 lead into the break.
GW led by 25, 47-22, following a layup from Jonquel Jones 11 seconds into the second half and would only increase the margin from there. The Patriots would trail by as much as 71-28 with 10:48 remaining following a 23-5 Colonial run. From there, the Patriots would outscore GW 17-9, but would never get closer than the final margin.
Three Colonials registered double figures led by Hannah Schaible with a game-high 18 points. Jonquel Jones and Caira Washington contributed 13 and 15 respectively.
The 10th seeded Patriots look to bounce back Thursday at 4:30 p.m. against seventh seeded Saint Joe's in the Atlantic 10 tournament held at the Richmond Coliseum.
