The Mason women's tennis team hosted Towson last night at the Springfield Golf & Country Club indoor facility. The Patriots fell to the Tigers 6-1 in a match that ended at 10:30 pm.

Towson came out strong in all three doubles matches but Mason mounted a comeback in two of the three. Esu Erdenebat and Jane Awad fell 8-3 to the Towson duo of Gomer/van Oorschodt. Olivia Lacy-Thompson and Scarlett Walston overcame a 0-3 start to defeat Vasilkova and Easdale 8-6 at #3 doubles. At #1 doubles Marijke Boers and Morgan Yang fell behind by a service break early but were able to take the lead at 6-5 before losing by a score of 8-6 to Wiilliams/Shakhnazarova to secure the doubles point for Towson.

The Tigers were able to take all three of the first round of singles matches in straight sets. Patriots freshman Jane Awad battled for just over two hours before falling to Lucy Williams, 4-6, 6-7. Mason's lone singles point came in the second round of singles when Boers, playing #4, defeated Gomer, 6-3, 6-3. Lacy-Thompson and Mina Saygi both fell to their Tiger opponents in two sets.

"I think Towson came out a little more match tough than we did in the beginning," commented Coach Stephen Curtis. "I think having Pilkington out with an injury hurt us a bit but we have players capable of stepping up. We lost today but I think we can use this to help us improve and prepare for Davidson next week."

Mason moves to 6-4 on the season and will head south to North Carolina next Saturday to take on Davidson as the first of their five matches on spring break.
