George Mason women's basketball could not overcome early offensive woes Wednesday night as the Patriots (13-13, 5-8 A-10) fell 82-51 at Saint Joseph's (9-16, 5-8 A-10).
The Hawks converted 49.1 percent (27-55) from the field and 46.2 percent (6-13) from beyond the arc seeing six players in double-figures led by Natasha Cloud with 17. Kristi Mokube paced the Patriots with 15 points in addition to a game-high nine boards and Taylor Brown added 11 points in the effort.
The Patriots shot just 30 percent from the field in the first half while the Hawks converted 53.6 percent (15-28) from the field and just over 57 percent (4-7) from beyond the arc to take a 38-21 lead into the break. Mason trailed 21-14 with 7:08 left in the half, but the Hawks rattled off a 17-7 run to wrap up the half and would continue their run into the second half to secure the win.
The Hawks outrebounded the Patriots 38-29 leading to 13 second chance points for SJU. The Patriot bench kept up with the reserves for Saint Joe's with each side getting 17 off the bench.
Mason continues their road trip Saturday when they look to bounce back at Saint Louis.
