HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison extended its win streak to six games with a 69-46 win over George Mason Saturday afternoon in the JMU Convocation Center. Shevon Thompson nearly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
-Mason held a 6-5 lead at the first media timeout, but a five minute scoring drought from the Patriots through the second media timeout allowed JMU to climb out to a 13-6 advantage with 12:14 to play.
-Coming out of the second media break, the Patriots answered with a 6-3 spurt, cutting the score to 16-12 with 8:01 to play.
-The Dukes grabbed their first double-digit lead following a triple from Cabarkapa at the 2:43 mark, setting up a 26-16 ballgame.
-JMU held its largest lead of the half, 30-16, after Cabarkapa's trey sparked a 7-0 run before Jalen Jenkins hit a layup for the halftime score, 30-18.
-The Dukes opened the second half with a 10-4 run to pull away with a 40-22 lead at the first media break. JMU would push its lead out to 24 points at the 8:52 mark off a trey from Jackson Kent.
-JMU would lead by as many as 27 in the second half.
-Shooting troubles from the Patriots in the first half allowed JMU to hold a 12-point halftime lead. Mason shot 26.9 percent in the half led by Otis Livingston II with five points.
-JMU held the rebounding lead at the halftime break, 23-19, and shot 35.5 percent in the half.
-For the game, Mason shot 31.0 percent (18-58) and narrowly fell in the rebounding battle, 41-39. Three Patriots scored nine points each with Thompson, Livingston and Marquise Moore.
-Thompson and Jalen Jenkins each led the Patriots on the glass with nine rebounds each. Mason won the rebounding battle in the second half, 20-18.
-Ron Curry led JMU with 11 points followed by Jackson Kent with 10 points. Yohanny Dalembert paced the Dukes on the glass with 11 rebounds.
-JMU finished 15-for-19 from the charity stripe and connected on 8-of-25 three-pointers and scored 29 points off the bench.
