On Thursday morning, the George Mason women's soccer team opens the 2015 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship facing Revolutionary Rivalry foe George Washington at 11 a.m. in the quarterfinal round. GW notched a close 1-0 double-overtime victory in the regular season meeting between the foes.
Coming off a 1-1 draw at Fordham, Mason earned the #8 seed in the tournament. Prior to the start of the championship, four Patriots were honored with All-Conference recognition. Sarah Hardison and Alex Myers picked up Second Team honors, while Nia Elbeck was named to the All-Rookie Team. Abby Downey earned a spot on the All-Academic Team.
GW earned the #1 seed in the A-10 Tournament after finishing the regular season with a perfect 10-0 mark. GW's head coach Sarah Barnes was named the Coach of the Year on Wednesday along with the postseason awards. Brooke Stoller was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year, while teammate Sofia Pavon was selected as the Rookie of the Year.
The winner tomorrow morning will face either fourth-seeded VCU or fifth-seeded Fordham in the semifinals.
