George Mason University competed in the Navy Classic Saturday, and had several positive individual efforts. Red-shirt senior captain Vince Rodriguez (133) was the top Mason wrestler, earning second place after losing a hard fought match in the finals.

Mason as a team finished eighth overall with 60.5 total team points. Princeton finished in first with 139 points and the hosts Navy finished in fourth place on 86.5 points.

Rodriguez' run on Saturday was especially impressive considering he knocked off Campbell's Nathan Kraisser, the #20 ranked wrestler in the country, in the first round by decision, 4-2. In the finals,  Rodriguez faced off against #2 ranked Kent State wrestler Mark McGuire, eventually losing by decision, 6-3.

Both red-shirt senior captain Greg Flournoy (157) and red-shirt freshman Tejan Anthony (141) won third place in their respective weight classes. Red-shirt freshman Matt Voss (HWT) wrestled tough all day and finished fourth overall in his division.

Flournoy and Voss made the semi-finals of their respective divisions before losing and moving into the consolation bracket semi-finals. Flournoy faced off against #2 ranked Ian Miller in the semi-finals and battled valiantly before losing by decision, 6-3. Flournoy won third place by sudden victory over talented Ohio wrestler and #13 ranked Spartak Chino, 3-1, to cap a solid day for the captain.

Voss beat Nick Mabry of Navy by fall with 2:31 remaining to secure a spot in the third place match. Voss figures to improve throughout the season giving Mason an opportunity to diversify where they get their team points.

Red-shirt senior Konbeh Koroma (149) and red-shirt junior Ryan Forrest (174) both made it to the quarterfinals in their respective weight classes. Koroma lost to Brown University's Steven Galliardo by sudden victory, 7-5, before falling in the consolation second round.

Mason will need to regroup quickly and prepare this week in practice for the Grapple at the Garden event in New York City coming up next Sunday.
