FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason women's basketball head coach Nyla Milleson announced the signing of five National Letters of Intent this afternoon. Joining the Patriots squad will be Jacy Bolton (Drexel, Missouri/Drexel High School), Alexsis Grate (Hampton, Va./Bethel High School), Sarah Kaminski (Plymouth, Minn./Minnehaha Academy), De'Jah Williford-Kelley (Columbia, S.C./Lower Richland High School) and Allie McCool (St. Leon, Ind./East Central High School).
“We are very excited about our 2016 recruits,” commented Milleson. “Our staff worked extremely hard to recruit great people and great student-athletes to join our Mason family. Collectively as a class, they fit our needs and will be a great Fab Five moving this program forward.”
Jacy Bolton (Drexel, Missouri/Drexel High School)
6'0” – G/F
A multi-sport athlete at Drexel High School competing in basketball, track and volleyball, Bolton is a three-time First Team All-Conference and First Team All-District honoree in basketball. Additionally, the Missouri native twice-earned MBCA All-State recognition. Bolton owns 16.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 3.7 apg, 3.7 spg and 2.9 bpg career averages and has surpassed the 1,000-career point mark.
As a volleyball athlete, Bolton was tabbed First Team All-Conference and All-District as a senior and Second Team All-District as a junior. She also picked up First Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore and Second Team All-Conference and First Team All-District accolades as a freshman. She went to state in the 4x8 her freshman season running track, finishing in fourth-place, and also took home a fourth-place finish in the 4x4 her junior season. A four-year Honor Roll Society member every semester, Bolton also earned honor roll accolades every semester.
“Jacy is a long-rangy athletic 3//4 player that has only begun to scratch the surface of her potential,” Milleson noted. “Her best days are defiantly ahead of her with her strong work ethic. She can shoot the 3 and also put her back to the basket. She will be a defensive presence with her length.”
Alexsis Grate (Hampton, Va./Bethel High School)
5'6” - G
The 2015 Daily Press Player of the Year, Grate picked up All-Conference Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region, First Team All-6A South and First Team All-State honors last season after averaging 16.9 ppg, 3.5 apg and 3.1 spg. This past season, Grate crossed the 1,000-point mark and set a career-high of 30 points in December. As a sophomore Grate averaged 18.6 ppg, earning Kecoughtan Girls Basketball MVP honors in addition to First Team All-Conference recognition. Grate also played for the top Nike AAU program in the state, competing with Nike EYBL with Boo Williams in Virginia.
“Alexsis is a tough nosed, high energy point guard that understands what she needs to do in order for her team to be successful,” stated Milleson. “She will be relentless on the defensive end. She is a set-up first point guard but also has the ability to score.”
Sarah Kaminski (Plymouth, Minn./Minnehaha Academy)
5'9” – G
A two-time All-State Honorable Mention, Kaminski was tabbed the Conference Player of the Year the past two seasons. She picked up Minnesota State High School All-Tournament Team honors last season after helping lead the Redhawks to a third-place finish at the 2015 Minnesota State Basketball Tournament. The past three seasons, Kaminski garnered All-Conference honors and has been tabbed the Offensive Player of the Year three consecutive seasons. As a junior, she surpassed the 1,000-career points mark and has recorded 30 double-doubles in three years at Minnehaha Academy. She also competes with Crossfire AAU which she helped lead to the final four at the AAU National Tournament.
Kaminski also participated in softball and volleyball at Minnehaha Academy. Kaminski picked up Academic All-State and All-Conference volleyball accolades last season. The Minnesota native also earned All-Conference honors in softball twice. A team captain in all three sports, Kaminski was named the 2015 Silver Stick Award and 2013 Rookie of the Year in softball.
“Sarah is a high IQ point guard that can slide to a 2 in our system,” Milleson said. “She can really shoot the 3 and she really understands the game and how to make those around her better.”
De'Jah Williford-Kelley (Columbia, S.C./Lower Richland High School)
6'1” – G/F
Williford-Kelley helped lead the Diamond Hornets of Lower Richland High School to a South Carolina AAA State Championship and two AAA State Semifinal appearances. She is also a two-time Region Champion, MVP, HSSR All-State honoree and picked up All-Region Player honors last season. The South Carolina native is a two-sport athlete at Lower Richland, competing in basketball and volleyball. Wiliford-Kelley also competed for the top Nike AAU program as a member of the Nike EYBL Carolina Flames out of North Carolina.
“De'Jah is an explosive, athletic, high energy player that will impact both ends of the floor,” said Milleson. “She will be extremely versatile in our system and with her scoring options, she will be tough to guard.”
Allie McCool (St. Leon, Ind./East Central High School)
6'2” – F
McCool has earned EIAC (Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference) All-Conference and All-County First Team honors the past three seasons and was tabbed the EIAC MVP in 2015. The Indiana native was tabbed the 2013 All-County Newcomer of the Year and was named to the IBCA (Indiana Basketball Coaches Association) Top 100 for three seasons. Last season, she averaged 13.2 ppg, 9.9 rpg and 2.4 bpg while shooting 57.3 percent from the field. McCool has competed for Indiana Flight Travel basketball for four years and is an Honor Roll member.
“Allie is a true low block scorer and rebounder,” stated Milleson. “Her strong body will be a tremendous asset to us defensively and on the glass. She is continuing to expand her game with the ability to step out and shoot the ball.”
