FAIRFAX, Va. – With just 1:01 expired in overtime, George Mason's Sarah Hardison converted for her eighth goal of the season to give Mason a 2-1 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Massachusetts Thursday night. The Patriots trailed a goal down as Nia Elbeck netted her first goal of the season to tie the score in the second half.
MATCH NOTES
-Mason picked up its second A-10 victory of the season after being on the road for nearly a month.
-Two shots on goal were registered in the first half as the teams played a scoreless first 45 minutes.
-Mason's Alex Myers threatened early in the first half as she blasted a shot off the post in the fourth minute.
-Jackie Bruno opened the scoring, finding the back of the net at the 45:58 mark to put UMass up 1-0.
-Emily Littell nearly scored the equalizer in the 60th minute as the Patriot's attempt was deflected by UMass goalkeeper Cassidy Babin. Babin punched the shot high as the ball hit the crossbar and went over the goal.
-Mason broke through and tied the game in the 82nd minute. Alex Myers controlled possession, passed it off to Erin Mitchell who found Nia Elbeck at the left post. Elbeck converted for her first goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1.
-Neither team converted in the final minutes, forcing overtime.
-Mason quickly scored in overtime as Alex Myers took a corner kick, finding Sarah Hardison who tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season for the win. Hardison found the bottom right corner scoring from the far post.
