George Mason women's basketball couldn't overcome a poor night from the free throw line in the 77-49 loss at Richmond Sunday afternoon. The Patriots converted on 35.7 percent from the field, but could not overcome a poor day at the free throw line, shooting just 30 percent (3-10) from the charity stripe.

The Spiders scored 21 points off 19 Mason turnovers, including 11 steals compared to the Patriots 16 points off 16 Richmond gaffs. Taylor Brown led the Patriots with a season-low 10 points on the night. The redshirt junior added four rebounds, two steals and four assists with no turnovers.  

Richmond had five in double figures led by Janelle Hubbard and Lauren Tolson with 18 each going a combined 12-12 from the free throw line. As a team, the Spiders hit 91.3 percent (21-23) from the line. The Patriots snagged just 28 boards in the effort compared to the Spiders 41.

Mason returns to action this weekend when they host Rhode Island Saturday, January 24 at 2 p.m. in a double feature with the men's team who takes on Davidson at 7 p.m.
