George Mason finished atop the standing in both men's and women's track and field Saturday as they opened the indoor season with the Father Diamond Invitational at the George Mason Field House. Both sides took finished the day with a commanding lead. The men's team finished with 213 points and the women took the top spot with 160 points. Georgetown finished second on both sides with 137 and 146 points respectively.
The men had nine first place finishes including a PR finish for Anthony Williams who finished first in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.06. Bernard Freeman also set a PR on his way to a first place finish in the 60m dash with a time of 6.94.
The Patriots had a strong showing in the distance events, taking 11 of the top 12 spot in the 3000 meter run, with Michael Conway securing the top spot with a time of 8:36.04. Conway also finished sixth in the mile run after running a PR of 4:17.20 in the prelims. Fellow Patriot Steven Flynn took third in the mile.
John Seals started his Mason career off right as the freshman finished first overall in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.94m. The Patriots also took the top spot in men's pole vault with junior Sean Daugherty setting a PR with a height of 4.80m while Logan Besougloff, Alexander Shotwell and Trip Chewning tied for fourth. Chewning also competed in the shot put, setting a PR of 10.71m.
The women wrapped up the day with six first place finishes with senior Shavon Briscoe taking first place in the 60m dash with a time of 7.65. Earlier in the day, Briscoe set a PR in the prelims of the 60m dash with a time of 7.62. Fellow senior Aneesha Scott finished second in the 60m with a time of 7.82. It was a big day for Mason women's freshman as Deonna Diggs finished first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.97 and Sharon Dorsey took the top spot in the 400m race.
The field events saw even more success for the women as the Patriot claimed the top five spots in the pole vault led by Lindsay Horton with a mark of 3.52m. Ashley Hinton, Shelby Garnand, Megann Kaiser and Lynne Eisenberg finished 2-4 respectively. Kaiser set a PR with a mark of 3.22m. Nhautrey Brown picked up where she left off last season with a first place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.42m and Junei Mosley finished tied for third in the long jump with a PR of 5.22m.
