Junior Morghan Martin posted 16 kills over two matches as the Patriots fell to 0-5 with losses to Lehigh (3-3) and East Tennessee State (2-3), both in straight sets, on day one of the Patriot Invitational Friday.

Martin posted a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs in the effort while freshman libero Jelena Cobanovic added 14 digs of her own as Mason took on Lehigh in the first match of the tournament. Two Mountain Hawks posted double-digit kills as they led Lehigh to a win going 25-19; 25-11; 29-27 over Mason.

The Patriots closed out day one with a night cap against East Tennessee State. Conbanovic once again posted 14 digs in the effort while the Bucs were led by the performances of Ivey Rice and Rylee Milhorn who had 10 kills each as ETSU would sweep Mason 25-16; 25-21; 25-17.

“I thought we served tougher in our second match, certainly, than what we did earlier,” head coach Pat Kendrick said. “Overall we were better, but we need to work on consistency.”

Day two of the Patriot Invitational begins Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Patriots taking the court at 2 p.m. against William & Mary who played just one match Friday, a 3-2 win over ETSU. The Green and Gold will then close out the tournament at approximately 6 p.m. against Maryland who also played just one Match Friday with a 3-1 win over Lehigh.
