The George Mason Patriots (0-3) look to bounce back from a difficult opening weekend when they host the Patriot Invitational Friday and Saturday at the RAC. The tournament will feature Lehigh, East Tennessee State, William & Mary and Maryland in round-robin play.
Mason opens the tournament against Lehigh (2-2) Friday at 1 p.m. This will be the third meeting between the programs with Mason holding a 2-0 series lead over the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh comes into the weekend off a 3-0 sweep of Hampton on Tuesday.
Next up, the Patriots will face East Tennessee (1-2) at approximately 7 p.m. to close out the first day of tournament action. Friday night marks just the second time the programs will have faced off, with Mason taking the only prior match in 1991. ETSU comes into the weekend off back-to-back 3-1 losses at the Charlotte Invitational.
Saturday's opponents have significantly more history with Mason volleyball. The Patriots resume play at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday when they face former-CAA foe William & Mary for the 53rd time in program history. The Tribe currently hold a 29-23 series advantage and swept the Patriots when the schools last met in 2012.
The Patriots will close out the tournament against the only unbeaten team heading into the weekend, Maryland, at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday night marks the 23rd meeting between the two programs with the Terps holding a 16-6 series lead and swept the Patriots in the last meeting during the 2013 season.
