After a weekend on the road the George Mason men's soccer team returns to Fairfax for a Saturday evening contest against UMBC on September 27 at 7 p.m. The Patriots kept their unbeaten season intact with a 0-0 draw at Seton Hall last Friday and a 1-0 victory at LIU-Brooklyn on Sunday.
Defense continues to lead the way for Mason, with the squad tied for first in the nation in team goals-against average (0.14) while ranking second in save percentage (0.947) and tied for second in shutout percentage (0.86), posting six in seven games. The 6-0-1 record also keeps Mason tied for second in the country with a 0.929 winning percentage this season.
Individually Timi Mulgrew remains in the top-five nationally with six goals this season, tied for fifth most where as he is tied for seventh with 14 points. Goalkeeper Steffen Kraus roams the top-three in individual save percentatge (0.944) and GAA (0.141).
Mason last met UMBC in 2013, falling 1-0 in Baltimore to a team that was ranked 11th in the country at the time. Overall the Patriots hold a 7-5-1 series advantage, last defeating the Retrievers in 2012, 2-1 at home. UMBC comes in to Saturday's contests off a 2-1 overtime defeat by the hands of William & Mary.
