FAIRFAX, Va. – In a physical game at George Mason Stadium, the George Mason men's soccer team (5-0-0) was able to score a goal in the 59th minute to defeat Hartwick (0-4-2) on Sunday afternoon.

In an out of bounds play, Brice Colcombe was able to throw in a perfect ball from the right sideline to Dirks, who was near the left corner of the net inside the box where he gathered and buried the ball for his third goal of the season. The shot was one of two on goal for the Patriots, who also limited the Hawks to two shot on goal in the contest. Colcombe records his first assist of the season.

The first half saw back and forward play from both sides with only six total shots in the period. Steffen Kraus was asked to make both of his saves in the half for a total of two on the afternoon, leading Mason to its fourth shutout in five games this season. The victory also runs Mason's home undefeated streak to 12 consecutive contests.

Daniel Hoffman had two scoring chances in the opening minutes of the second half, with one shot going off the crossbar in the 57th minute before Colcombe and Dirks combined for Mason's goal in the 59th minute. Hartwick applied late pressure with three corners in the final 12 minutes and physical play all throughout the second half, earning three yellow cards. The Hawks totaled seven corners to Mason's five while also outshooting the Patriots, 7-6.

The Green and Gold hit the road for a pair of games next weekend, beginning with a match at Seton Hall on Friday, Septmeber 19 at 4 p.m. The Patriots also travel to Brooklyn on Sunday, September 21 to play LIU-Brooklyn at noon.
