FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's soccer team scored twice in the first seven minutes of play and was able to hold Wisconsin-Milwaukee to two shots on goal as the Patriots defeated the Panthers 2-0 on Friday evening at George Mason Stadium.

Mason keeps its record clean and improves to 4-0-0 on the season while Wisconsin-Milwaukee dips to 3-2-0 with the loss.

It did not take long for the Patriots to score the first goal of the game, as Timi Mulgrew was able to play a ball off the keeper into open space and strike from 20 yards out into an open net for the 1-0 lead, 32 seconds into the match. Mulgrew notched his sixth goal of the season, unassisted, and has scored at least once in every match this season. The senior led Mason with five shots on the evening.

Mulgrew was also involved in the second goal of the night. The forward took a shot from the left side of the field which was saved and deflected off of keeper Agustin Rey right into the legs of sophomore Zach Herstek who buried the ball for his first goal of the season and the 2-0 lead in the seventh minute. The Patriots tested the Panthers all throughout the first half, outshooting them 7-1 in period without allowing a shot on goal.

More physical play picked up in the second half with chances from both teams however none found the back of the net. Milwaukee's best chance came with a shot from Zach Stevenson in the 62nd minute from 15 yards out, causing goalkeeper Steffen Kraus to make a diving save to his right for the Patriots. Kraus ended the match with two saves to record his third shutout of the season. Laurie Bell recorded a team-high four shots for the Panthers.

The final contest of Mason's three-game home stand takes place on Sunday, September 14 at 1 p.m. when the Patriots host Hartwick for their final game of the Capital Cup.
