NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The George Mason women's soccer team has been selected to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 this season as voted upon by the league's head coaches. The Patriots finished fifth in the conference last season after posting a 4-4 record against A-10 opponents. Mason ended the year with a 7-11-1 overall record.
For the sixth consecutive year, Dayton was selected as the favorite to finish first this season after picking up eight of the 14 first place votes. Two-time defending A-10 Champions, La Salle picked up the six remaining first place votes after winning the A-10 Tournament last season to come in second place. VCU, Saint Louis and Massachusetts round out the rest of the top five in the preseason poll.
La Salle led the way with four players making the A-10 preseason first team. Dayton and George Washington both had two players each make the team as well. The league's head coaches voted on the twelve-member Preseason All-Conference Team.
The Patriots travel to Georgetown on Tuesday, August 12 and to Delaware on Thursday, August 14 for its first two exhibition games. Mason hosts its final exhibition game against UMBC at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17. The Patriots host Loyola at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22 to officially start the season.
