Assistant women's basketball coach Tajama Ngongba returned to George Mason earlier this week fresh off coaching the US Virgin Islands Women's Senior National team to a bronze medal finish at the CBC Championship for Women and the last slot in the Centrobasket Championship for Women with a 65-52 win over Trinidad and Tobago on July 12.

The USVI started the tournament strong with a 56-51 victory over the Bahamas on July 8 before rolling Barbados 83-65 the following day. The squad suffered its first loss of the tournament, a 65-61 decision against the Dominican Republic, but advanced to the semi-final round with a 2-1 record, tied for the best in Group A.

Ngongba and her team then played their fourth game in as many days when they faced Jamaica in the CBC's version of the “Final Four.” Though the USVI kept it close until the end, they fell to the eventual tournament champions 49-46.

With the third-place finish, the USVI advances to the Centrobasket Championship for Women later this month. However, Ngongba, who took over as head coach for the USVI women's team in 2011, will not return for the tournament due to responsibilities at Mason. This is USVI's second medal finish under Ngongba.
