Patriots' assistant coach Tajama Ngongba will once again be the head coach for the U.S. Virgin Islands Women's Senior National Team this July as they compete in the CBC Senior Women's Championship for the fourth straight summer. Ngongba will join the team as it begins training camp June 22.

Ngongba has been the head coach for the USVI senior team since the summer of 2011. In her first season at the helm, she led the team to a bronze medal finish in 2011 CBC games to qualify for the Centrobasket Senior Women's Championship in 2012 where they finished seventh.

“The opportunity to maintain leadership and competency within the Virgin Islands Women Basketball Program has proved to be fruitful to the development of basketball within our jurisdiction,” VIBF president, Usie Richards said. “It lays the foundation for young players to grow from our Junior Program to the Senior Women National Team.”

The St. Croix native began her tenure with the USVI women's program in 2001. Ngongba a member of the coaching staff that helped the U.S. Virgin Islands Women's Junior National Team to a gold medal in the 2001 Caricom Junior Basketball Championships in Nassau, Bahamas. She was still actively competing for the USVI senior team in 2002 when the squad won the FIBA Americas Championship.

“The fact that Taj has competed at the International Level and the Professional Level serves as an inspiration to our players who are devoted to excelling in the game of basketball,” Richards said.
