Senior Daianna Barron set a new personal record as she led the Patriots Thursday evening at the NCAA East Prelims in Jacksonville, FL.
Barron finished 16th overall in the first round of the women's 400m dash with a personal record time of 53.59 to qualify for Friday's semifinal race. The time replaces Barron's previous personal record as Mason's ninth fastest time in the event. Dominique Graham finished just outside the top 25 with a 27th place finish in a time of narrowly missed qualifying for the semis in the same event, setting a personal record with a time of 53.79.
Barron will run for a chance to go to the NCAA Finals held at Oregon Friday night. Senior Mandissa Marshall will also compete for a spot in Oregon when the women's pole vault gets underway at noon Friday and Michelle Wallerstedt looks to qualify in the women's discus at 3:30 pm. Senior Shavon Briscoe will compete in the first round of the women's 100m hurdles at 5:30 pm, hoping to advance to Saturday night's semi-final.
On the men's side, Adrian Vaughn missed qualifying in Thursday night's 400m dash, but will look to bounce back in Friday night's 200m dash. Anthony Williams will also look to advance to the semi-finals as he competes in the 110m hurdles at 5:00 pm Friday. At the same time over in field events, Jimi Tele looks to qualify for a trip to Oregon when the men's triple jump gets underway.
