George Mason senior goalkeeper Lyndse Hokanson has been selected to receive a 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Postgraduate Scholarship. The A-10 selects the student-athletes on their academic and athletic credentials.
The Crofton, MD native will be attending Division II Valdosta State University in the fall as a graduate assistant coach for the women's soccer team. She has been accepted at the University in Georgia and will work towards getting a Master's degree in Communications. She will graduate from George Mason this weekend with a B.A. in Communications with a concentration in Journalism and a minor in Sports Communication.
“I'm grateful that the A-10 selected me for this award and hope that I can continue to represent this amazing school and great conference well where ever life takes me from here,” said Hokanson, who aspires to a coaching career in soccer.
Hokanson's academic credentials are well documented. She was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) being named to the 2013 NSCAA University Division Women's Scholar All-East Region Second Team. She is a three-time George Mason Provost Scholar Athlete, earning above a cumulative 3.75 GPA.
She appeared in 24 games for the Patriots this season and finished her senior season with five shutouts and a .760 save percentage. In her four-year playing career, Hokanson posted a 1.33 goals-against-average to go along with a .751 save percentage and 10 shutouts. She has left her mark in the all-time record book in career saves (199), save percentage (.751), GAA (1.33), shutouts (10), as well as in the all-time season stats.
