FAIRFAX, Va. - On senior day Sunday, the George Mason men's tennis seniors Chris Borden, Jimmy Davis and Taylor Sargent went out in style with a 7-0 victory over La Salle in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
Playing at number three doubles, Borden and Davis did not give up a game in an 8-0 win over La Salle's Tom MacLeod and Mark Robinson, while Sargent partnered with Tanner Baine to defeat Joe Labate and Brian Balico, 8-1, at two doubles. Jimmy Lange and Joe Hill completed the doubles sweep defeating Dale Fetterman and DeSean Fennell 8-2 at the one doubles spot.
The Patriots went on to claim all six singles matches. Jimmy Davis beat the Explorers's DeSean Fennell 6-2, 6-4 at one singles, while Aaron Capitel, playing two singles, defeated Dale Fetterman 6-0, 6-3 and Tanner Baine scored a 7-5, 6-4 win over Joe Labate at the three position. At number four singles, Taylor Sargent defeated Rob Kasinow 6-1, 6-3 as Chris Borden netted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tom MacLeod. Nick Barker completed the sweep with his 6-3, 6-2 victory over Brian Balico.
The Patriots improved to 13-7 overall and 4-3 in the A-10 with the victory.
"Our team has improved so much in the last four years, and much of the credit goes to our seniors Jimmy Davis, Chris Borden, and Taylor Sargent," noted head coach Gary Quam. "They have been instrumental in raising our level to one that is very competitive in the A-10. Today we had the opportunity to thank them for their contributions."
The Patriots travel to Charlottesville, Va. for the Atlantic 10 Championships to be held at the Boars Head Inn, April 17-20.
