Former George Mason soccer star Jonathan Borrajo signed with the San Antonio Scorpions as announced on Thursday.
The 26-year-old, 5'9” Borrajo is a native of Clifton, New Jersey, and starred for George Mason University from 2005-08. He earned second team All-CAA honors in 2008 and is tied with numerous others from the 2008 team for the most individual games played in a single season with Mason at 23.
"Jonathan is a player we identified in our off season who has prior experience playing for the New York Red Bulls and professionally in Norway,” said Scorpion head coach Alen Marcina. “He provides width and pace to our right side and he's a dynamic defender that we're delighted to have join the squad."
Borrajo played in the New York Red Bulls' academy from 2006-07 and signed with the club in 2012, making one appearance for the senior team. In Europe, Borrajo was an integral part of Norwegian second division side HamKam's promotion to the Tippeligaen (first division) during the 2011 campaign and he made 36 total appearances over two seasons with the team. After his stint with the Red Bulls, Borrajo returned to Norway's top flight in 2013, this time with Mjøndalen IF, where he played in 31 matches for the club.
Borrajo's professional career includes appearances with: New Jersey Rangers (USL PDL), Real Maryland Monarchs (USL PDL), HamKam (Norway), New York Red Bulls (MLS) and Mjøndalen IF (Norway).
