FAIRFAX, Va. - As Opening Day draws near, GoMason.com took the time to catch up with the players on this year's George Mason baseball roster and asked them 10 baseball-related questions. We will highlight some of the players' responses as we count down the days to first pitch, starting with today's question:
Why did you choose to attend George Mason?
“I wanted the opportunity to play baseball at a high level. My dad played here at Mason as well, and I felt like it was a good fit. As a business management major, the programs offered here at Mason also played a big role in my decision.”
- Utility player Andrew Sable, redshirt junior
“The way everything came together when I was being recruited and how enthusiastic the coaches were about bringing me into this program. I felt like this would be a good spot for me and it has worked out well.”
- LHP Jared Gaynor, senior
“I chose George Mason because my high school coach said he loved it when he came here to play for Coach Brown and said I would have a great opportunity here to not only play a high level of baseball with a great coach, but also receive a top notch education.”
- RHP Michael Bowie, senior
“I wanted to play close to home, where family could watch me.”
- 2B/SS Derek Evans, Sophomore
“The balance of academics and athletics, in addition to the rich history of the baseball program and their success. Also, Mason stood out in terms of internship opportunities in the Northern Virginia area to generate connections.”
