After opening the season with eight games on the road, the George Mason baseball team (6-2) hosts the Hartford Hawks (0-3) for the first weekend series at Spuhler Field that will now begin on Saturday, March 1.

Due to cold weather and field conditions, Friday's home opener with Hartford has been postponed. A double header will take place on Saturday, March 1 beginning at noon with the final game of the series remaining on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Patriots last defeated Longwood University 2-1 on Wednesday, using a complete game by senior LHP Jared Gaynor to get the victory. Mason opened the season with seven games in the state of South Carolina; three in Spartanburg and four in Myrtle Beach to post a 6-2 as the Patriots begin a stretch of 20 home games in their next 21 contests. Gaynor and Montefusco lead the pitching staff in the early season with ERA's of 0.41 and 0.00, respectively. Chris Cook holds the hot bat on offense, leading the team with 3 homeruns and a slugging percentage of .786 while scoring 11 runs and collecting 22 total bases.

Hartford began the season in Washington, DC where they were swept by the Georgetown Hoyas. Two of the Hawks' three games went in to extra innings, where they fell 4-3 in 13 innings on February 21 and 11-10 in 11 innings on February 22. Chris DelDebbio, Ryan Lukach and Trey Stover are each batting .375 in their first three games of the season.
