Once again, a strong second half was not enough for George Mason as the Patriots regular season road play Wednesday night with a 71-52 loss at Fordham.
After Janaa Pickard secured the tipoff for Mason and located Sandra Ngoie under the rim for a layup, it was all Fordham. The Rams responded with a 12-2 run over the next four minute of play and would continue to outshoot the Patriots for the remainder of the first half. Over the first 20 minutes of play, Mason shot just 29.6% from the field while Fordham connected on 50% of their shots leading to a 38-18 deficit for the Patriots at the break.
Mason bounced back in the second half shooting over 57%from the field while holding the Rams to just over 36% in the final 20 minutes of play. After the Rams pulled ahead 54-30 with 12:52 minutes remaining, the Patriots battled back with an 18-4 Mason run to bring the game within 12 with just over five minutes to play.
Taylor Brown led Mason with 16 points and five rebounds on the night and was the only Patriot with double figures. Kyana Jacobs dished out four assists in addition to her eight points in the effort and Reana Mohamed put up seven points.
The Patriots return home Saturday to take on Richmond in a rematch of the Patriots' 67-64 overtime loss on Jan. 15th at Richmond.
