Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts – The George Mason men's volleyball team falls in its second EIVA match to Harvard 3-0.
Harvard won with set scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-23. With tonight's loss, the Patriots move to 4-6 (0-2) on the season, while Harvard improves their record to 4-3.
Harvard started off strong, jumping out to an early 4-1 lead after a couple of kills by Caleb Zimmick. The Patriots got the lead down to just two twice in this set, but couldn't overcome the Crimson's lead. Harvard went on to win a close set 25-22.
The second set started off extremely close. A kill by Radoslav Popov gave the Green Gold a one-point lead at 5-4. However, after that it was all Harvard. The Crimson scored five points in a row to give them a four-point lead. Harvard didn't look back from there, and went on to win this set 25-18 after a kill by Casey White.
The third and final set looked like it was going Harvard's way after three straight attack errors to start the set by the Patriots. However, the Green and Gold fought back and even got the lead down to one, eight times. It went back and forth all the way to the end until Harvard won the match on an attack error from Mason (25-23).
Jack Wilson led the Patriots with a match-high 15 kills to go along with his 17 points in the match. Jonathan Lutz was the only other Patriot in double digit kills, finishing with 10. Senior Joe Heim dished out a team-high 24 assists. Meanwhile, Dave Lucas added six digs on defense to lead the Green and Gold.
The Crimson were lead by Casey White, who had a team-best 11 kills. Nick Bendell also dished out a match-best 38 assists. Meanwhile, Dj White and Chris Gibbons led Harvard with 7 total digs on defense each.
