Box Score FAIRFAX, Virginia – The George Mason men's volleyball team beat the University of Puerto Rico – Rio Piedras tonight to mark their fourth win in a row.
The Green and Gold won with set scores of: 25-18, 25-21, and 25-19. With tonight's win, the Patriots move to 4-2, while UPRRP drops to 2-2.
George Mason went back and forth with UPRRP in the first set until the Patriots went on a six-point run to make the score 23-15. That run was thanks in part to two points from middle blocker, Hunter Stevens. The Green and Gold went on to win this set easily 25-18.
The second set was the closet set of the match. It went back and forth all the way to the end, until a kill by Jack Wilson and two attack errors by Carlos Acosta. Another kill by Hunter Stevens won the set for the Patriots 25-21.
The third and final set was all Mason. The Green and Gold jumped out to an early lead, going up 6-2 after kills by Jack Wilson and Radoslav Popov. Mason didn't look back from there. Another kill from Popov and a service ace from Ryan Rosenmeier gave the Patriots the win 25-19.
Jack Wilson and Paco Velez led the Patriots with 10 kills each. Senior Joe Heim dished out a match-high 33 assists. Meanwhile, Paco Velez led the Green and Gold with 10 digs on defense.
Gabriel Colon had a team-high 13 kills for the University of Puerto Rico – Rio Piedras. Gabriel Colon also dished out a team-high 20 total assists.
George Mason will go for their fifth win in a row as they host Ball State at the RAC on Friday, February 7 at 7:00 p.m. The Patriots will also host IPFW the next day, February 8 at 7:00 p.m. as well.
