George Mason women's basketball (8-4) earned its third win in four days with an 83-61 decision at Longwood (0-11) Monday night behind a career-high tying 35 points from redshirt junior Taylor Brown.
“I'm really excited for this team, we're showing a lot of growth,” Head coach Nyla Milleson said.
Brown hit four of her first five shots in the first five minutes of action to give the Patriots a 15-4 lead. With just under 15 minutes in the first half, Brown would go on to end the half with 22 points as Mason would take a 50-37 lead into the break.
“I think we came out of the gates very well, which is a positive,” Milleson said. “But I do think the last four of five days caught up with us a bit. But we showed a lot of grit and found a way to win.”
The Lancers would stage a bit of a come-back in the second half, starting things off on a five minute 10-3 run to cut the score to 53-47 before Brown would convert an old-fashioned three point play to snap the Patriots scoring drought and help Mason outscore the Lancers 30-14 to secure the win.
Senior Sandra Ngoie narrowly missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds while redshirt junior Jasmine Jackson shot 50 percent (5-10) from the field on her way to 14 points.
The Patriots return to action Sunday at Towson when they wrap up non-conference play.
